William Charles Stowers, 82, of Pembroke, departed this life Tuesday morning, December 17, 2013 at Lewis-Gale Medical Center in Salem. Born in Bland County on September 2, 1931, he was a son of the late Ross Stowers, Sr. and Anna Kate Ramsey Stowers. He was a veteran of the U S Army, Korean War and a member of American Legion Post No. 68 in Narrows. He was a gifted carpenter by trade working all across the country. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Ross D. Stowers, Jr. and Wallace Henry Stowers.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Birtha Dillon Stowers; his step sons and their wives Walter Garland Meade and Clara of Pearisburg, Glen Earvin Meade and Peggy of Pearisburg; his step daughter and fiancÚ Lora Ann Meade and Noah Mullins of Chester; his half brothers and their wives Donnie and Patricia Havens of Narrows, William and Allison Havens of Hampton; his sister and her husband Ola Bell and Hale Havens of Independence, Ky; his half sister and her husband Charlotte and Frank Kellison of Narrows; his five step-grandchildren and his four step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1:00 pm in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with burial following in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg.
