Madeline Williams Hall, 91, of Pembroke, departed this life Monday evening, November 4, 2013 at Retreat Hospital in Richmond. Born in Richlands, June 30, 1922, she was a daughter of the late George Kemper and Ercel Sykes Williams. She was a lifetime resident of Giles County, a devoted member of Pembroke First United Methodist Church, and former Deputy to the Commissioner of the Revenue. She was preceded in death by her husband J. Bentley Hall.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Sharon Hall deFur and son-in-law Peter deFur, of Richmond, granddaughter Erica Malik and her husband Khurrum Malik and granddaughter Kirsten deFur. She cherished her great-grandsons Gabriel, Jonah, and Asher Malik. Born second of nine, her surviving siblings include Katherine Booth, Sherman Williams and wife Jeannette, Thurman Williams and wife Dorothy, George Williams and wife Kathy and their families.
A loving wife and mother, leader in her community, and mentor to countless family and friends, Madeline’s generous spirit, sense of humor, and ever–present grace will be sorely missed. The family thanks the many family members, friends and caregivers whose support and care enabled Madelline to remain active and connected in the community throughout her last Years.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday morning at eleven am in the Pembroke First United Methodist Church,Pembroke, with Pastor Dan Elmore officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 until 8 pm at the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke.
