Craig William “Clyde” Woods, 54, of Pembroke, passed away peacefully into Glory on Monday, June 24, 2013 at his home. He was born in Baltimore, MD on March 16, 1959. Craig was a retired Army veteran and worked for the Salvation Army and Federal Express. During his military tour of duty he was able to witness the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. He was a graduate of Giles High School and attended Christopher Newport College. He was an avid sports fan and loved Giles High School athletics and the Virginia Tech Hokies.
Craig was preceded in death by his grandparents, Arthur W. and Louisa V. T. Sagel of Baltimore, MD, and Buford W. and Yholande M. Woods of Pearisburg, as well as his father James E. Woods of Pembroke.
He is survived by his mother, Sylvia S. Woods of Pembroke, his brother Curtis M. Woods and Elaine “Lanie” Golusky of Elliston, brother Christopher E. and Irma Woods and stepdaughter Kirsten of Lynchburg, his son Vincent M. Rhode of Berlin, Germany; his aunt Beverly W. and Ed Ballard of Zephyrhills, Florida; his uncle W. Beverly “Fletch” and Ruth Fletcher of Oak Hall; his cousins Cherron F. and Tom Davis of Accomack, Keith Giles of Jasper, GA and John Giles of Zephyrhills, FL.
Clyde wanted to take this opportunity to thank his many friends who made his life special. A special thank you also goes out to the staff at the Salem Veterans Administration Medical Center and the Giles County Hospice.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 pm Thursday, June 27, 2013 at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin with the Rev. Gary Alexander officiating and military honors by the National Guard, American Legion Posts and VFW. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society. The Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke is in charge of arrangements.
