Lyman Roosevelt Williams, 72, of Hoges Chapel, Virginia departed this life on September 27, 2005 at his home after a long illness. Born on April 27, 1933 in Hoges Chapel, he was a son of the late Jesse and Lyda Meredith Williams. He was preceded in death also by three brothers Jesse (JJ), Ralph,Sr, and Martin Richard Williams and two sisters, Janice Collins and Elizabeth Williams. He is a veteran of the U. S. Army, had worked at the Celanese Celco Plant, and RAAP, and was a partner in the M&W Supermarket at Hoges Chapel, and was a member of Mt Lebanon United Methodist Church in Hoges Chapel.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 51 years, Betty Duncan Williams, two sons and daughters-in-law Larry Jay and Mary Williams of Pembroke, Garry and Carolyn Williams of Newport; one daughter and son-in-law Gala and Bob Daley of Indian Trail, NC; five grandchildren Jessie and wife Angel of Pembroke, Carrie Williams of Alexandria, VA, Rachel and husband Karl Mann of Orlando, FL, Deanna Martin of Christiansburg and Natalie Williams of Radford; three great-grandchildren Laken Price, Kylie Williams and William Mann; two sisters Loveline Martin and Kitty Kellison; and one brother William E. (Bill) Williams and wife Mary Lois; a brother-in-law Andrew Duncan and sister-in-law Jane Williams and a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 PM in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Pembroke. The family will receive friends at the church Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 PM. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to The Pembroke Charity in care of Pembroke Telephone Co-operative. Giles Co. American Legion Posts and VFW Post will honor him with graveside military rites. The Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke is in charge of arrangements.
