Lindsey Miller Stevers, 86, of Pearisburg, departed this life Thursday morning, March 28, 2013 in the care of Heritage Hall and hospice in Blacksburg. Born in Pembroke on March 29, 1927 he was a son of the late Samuel Nathan and Hila Birdia Merrix Stevers. For over forty years Lindsey worked for Local 75, International Association of Bridge Structural Iron Workers. He was a member and lay speaker at Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church, was a member of Pembroke Ruritan Club, served on the Hoges Chapel Water Board and the Giles County Social Services Board. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jean Stevers, his sisters Darence Kanode and Shelby Jean Chasteen, and his brother Leslie Stevers.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife Mary Thacker Stevers; his son Lindsey Allen (Kathy) Stevers of Peoria, AZ; his daughters and sons-in-law Linda and Danny Long of Max Meadows, Susan and Bob Medsker of Petosky, MI; his beloved step-son and his wife Fredrick Lee “Freddie” and Marcia Lee Thacker of Townsend, TN; his six grandchildren, and his seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 am in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with The Rev. Rob Lough officiating. Burial will follow in the Fillinger Cemetery near Pembroke. The family will receive friends one hour before the services at the funeral home. Following the graveside services a meal and celebration of Lindsey’s life will be held at 12:30 pm in the Mt Lebanon United Methodist Church at Hoges Chapel near Pembroke. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers that contributions be made to “Mary Stevers for Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church” in care of BB&T Bank at Pembroke.
