William Douglas Merrix, 79, of Ripplemead, departed this life to be with the Lord Tuesday morning, November 6, 2012 at Carilion Giles Community Hospital in Pearisburg. Born in Giles County on May 8, 1933, he was a son of the late Edgar H. and Reba Hilton Merrix. He was a member of The Evangelistic Holiness Chapel in Pembroke, was retired from Klotz Stone Quarry in Ripplemead and Lionberger Construction Co. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Michael Lee Merrix, his sisters Tootsie Sadler, Peggy Merrix, and brothers J C, E J, and Bud Merrix.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 54 years Naomi Sanders Merrix; his sons David (Punk) Merrix and Scott Merrix and wife Melissa; his daughter Drema Merrix; his daughter-in-law Sharon Sifford Merrix wife of the late Michael Merrix; his grandchildren April, Cody, JD, Travis, Alisha, Corey, Chase, Isabelle, Sarah, James and Steven; his great-grandchildren Bryce, Skylar, Logan, Lyndsey, Lacie, Courtney, Meya, Brodie, Addison, Karma and Tristen; his sister and brother-in-law Jean and Paul McCormick.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 pm in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with Pastor Merrell Hedrick officiating. Pastor Hedrick and his wife Arlene will minister in the funeral music as well. Burial will follow in the Fillinger Cemetery at Pembroke. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 pm. The Kendall Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
