Irene Beatrice Manning, 79, of Olean Road, Goldbond Community, departed this life Friday morning, September 14, 2012 at her home. Born in Kerns (now Goldbond) on December 15, 1932 she was a daughter of the late Earl Bryan and Betty Wallace Lucas. She was a devout Christian and followed the Holiness Faith, had been active in the Goldbond Gospel Tabernacle, Shaver Memorial Church and presently with the Weslyan Methodist Church in Princeton. She was a diligent worker as a homemaker, in Manning’s Country Kitchen and the family grocery store and had worked in a sewing factory. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Alfred Lee Manning, Sr., her brothers Elmer and Leroy Lucas, and her sister Virginia Ferguson.
She leaves to cherish her memory her son Alfred Manning, Jr. (Jimmy) of Goldbond; her daughters and sons-in-law Teretha (Weesie) Manning and Don Goodwin of Kire, Brenda W. and J B Sessor of Goldbond; her grandson C J Williams of Goldbond; her half-sisters Helen and Darla; her sister-in-law Dorothy M. Snider of Goldbond; and her special friend Becky Bird of Christiansburg.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 pm in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with Pastor William Jones and Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in the Lucas Family Cemetery at Goldbond. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home.
