Mary Sue Conley, 83, of Pembroke, embraced by her children, family, and in the presence of heavenly angels, departed this earth on Monday morning, July 26, 2005 from Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. Born in Kimballton on November 8, 1921 she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Tishie Kirk Lucas. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of forty-one years, Ervin Levi Conley, her parents, eleven brothers and sisters: Stewart, Guy, Chap and Arthur Lee Lucas, Edith Mahaffey, Dorie Morris, Nannie Lucas, Minnie Johnson, Janie Hale and Bessie Short.
She is survived by her six children and spouses: Eddie Conley, Peggy Wright, Eugene Conley all of Pembroke, Curtis Calvin and Judy Conley of Decauter, IL, Katy and Garry Dunford of North East, MD, Lila and Edward Heck of Fairmont, WV; her grandchildren Bryan and David Conley, Ervin Dale, Troy, Wesley, and Amber Wright, Ashley Chevres, Chad, Ryan, and Jared Heck, and Shelby Conley; 31 Great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Mary retired from the Celanese Corp in 1984. She enjoyed gardening, music, quilting, neighbors, friends, and family. She was proud of her Cherokee Indian heritage and practiced the healing taught by her mother. She served as an American Red Cross Instructor and attended the Pembroke Evangelistic Holiness Chapel. “Granny Mary” was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, always welcoming others to her home.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Ken Walker and a childhood friend, Cherokee Merrix for all their help and love. The journey of eighty-three years rewards her with the celebration of a new life in the arms of the Lord.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, July 29, 2005 at 2:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6 to 8 PM.
