Kathleen Porterfield Lucas, 94, of Newport and Pheasant Ridge Community in Roanoke went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, March 2, 2012 with Joyce, Curtis and Janice by her side. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Lucas in December 1946, her parents Minnie and Byron Porterfield, her brother and sister-in-law Bryce and Mary Agnes Breen Porterfield and her beloved grandson Jeffrey Byron Stiff. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Joyce and Curtis Stiff of Roanoke; two sisters-in-law Marjorie (Mrs. Dewey) Lucas and Tillie (Mrs. Lewis) Lucas; also several nieces and nephews and her church family at Sherry Memorial Christian Church which her great-grandfather, Lewis F. Porterfield helped establish in 1903; other survivors include her favorite nieces and nephews Janice Porterfield Hypes and son Jimmy, Randy Lucas, Larry Higginbotham and wife Pam and Doris Lucas Link and a favorite cousin Lori Porterfield and fishing buddies Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Rock; and her frequent visitors in Roanoke Dessie Cox and Carol Argabright. A special and loving thanks to caregivers Linda and Jodi Nester. Kathleen enjoyed gardening, flowers and crocheting. She was employed at Celanese Corp. in Narrows for 33 years whe4re she had many friends among her co-workers.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, March 6 at 11:00 am in The Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with the Rev. Matthew Cox officiating. Interment will follow in the Porterfield Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 4 until 8 pm.
