Oscar Berlin Dudding

Oscar Berlin Dudding, “Poppy”, 94, of the Maybrook Community, Newport, a vital spirit to all who knew and loved him slipped into the arms of God’s angels for his journey to the Kingdom of Eternal Life for a well deserved rest and rejoicing, at Giles Community Hospital in Pearisburg. He was born at Craig Healing Springs on Johns Creek on November 5, 1916 a son of the late Robert Ross and Ola Blanche Elmore Dudding. Oscar was a devoted Christian, brought up in the Forks of Johns Creek Christian Church and was a member of Lucas Memorial Christian Church. He had served in the CCC Camp in Craig County as a young man, he was an excellent welder, and an expert heavy equipment operator, having worked at the Standard Lime Company at Kimballton and in the strip mining business in West Virginia. Oscar was an avid golfer and hit the first ball (unofficially) on the new Castle Rock Golf Course in Pembroke, and was abel to break eighty after he was eighty. He always had time for kids and was always the one that you knew would come when you needed help. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son “Butch” Oscar B. Dudding, Jr. and a great-grandson Joshua Dudding.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of seventy-two years Lorraine Martin Dudding; his son Benjamin R. Dudding and his wife Judy Williams Dudding of Newport; his daughter-in-law Joyce Thomas Dudding of Pembroke; his four grandchildren; his three great-grandchildren (including a special little Brooke Carter); his devoted and always helpful nephews Doug and Darrell Martin of Newport who were there for him during his illness.
