David Arnold Atwood, 55, of Pembroke and formerly of Narrows departed this life Thursday evening, May 12, 2011 at Giles Community Hospital in Pearisburg after a long illness. Born in Beckley, West Virginia on February 7, 1956, he was a Ham Radio Enthusiast (K4WICH), was proud to be a NRA member, was an employee of Volvo in Dublin, and was a proud Green Wave Graduate of Narrows High School 1974. He was preceded in death by his father David Fred Atwood.
He leaves to cherish his memory his mother Pearl Maxine Hatfield Hughes of Beckley, WV; his step-mother Vivian Atwood of Norris, TN; his brother Paul Atwood and his wife Penny of Clayton, NC; his sisters and brothers-in-law Gayle and Norman Schnorf of Gulf Port, MS, Janice and Raymond Plymale of Coal City, WV, Laddie and Tom Dyke of Osceola, MO, Tammy and Timmy Spicer of Narrows, and Judy and Bill,Jr. Psathas of Narrows; his step daughter Michelle and her husband Chris Whittaker of Roanoke; his step-son Chris Davis of Pearisburg, and his fifty-two nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2pm in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with Pastor Ward Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Sunrise Memory Gardens at Rich Creek. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 12pm until 2pm before the services.
