Myrtle Dillon Slaughter, 76 of Collier St. in Dublin, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday afternoon June 28, 2005 at Pulaski Community Hospital in Pulaski, VA. Born in Monroe Co., WV on June 17, 1929 she was a daughter of the late Hampton and Nora Mills Dillon. Myrtle was a devout Christian and a member of the family of faith at Bethel Chapel in Clendennin and served her fellowman as an LPN. She was preceded in death by her first husband Harry Burton Hill, sisters Alice Gillespie and Loraine Gordon , a brother Eddie Dillon, and a step-daughter Mozelle S. Gilkerson.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband Sagle Slaughter, three daughters Sharon Hill Vess of Taylorsville, NC, Patricia Hill Moody of Roanoke, Sheila Hill Dillon of Cordova, TN; a step daughter Jean Ann Cook of Pulaski; four step-sons Elliott Slaughter of Dublin, Joseph Slaughter of Ohio, Timothy Slaughter of Pennsylvania, Grant Slaughter of Pulaski; grandsons Derek Vess, Aaron Vess and Christopher Dillon, three great-grandchildren; sixteen step-grandchildren; eleven step-great-grandchildren; two brothers Malon Herbert Dillon of Narrows and Virgil Dillon of Fairmont , WV; three sisters Louise Hardage of Greensboro , NC, Nancy McKnight of Akron, Ohio and Juanita Lundie of Apollo, PA.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11:00 AM in the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens on Airport Rd. in Roanoke at 1:00 PM Friday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6 to 8 PM. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that contributions may be made to the building fund at Bethel Chapel, P. O. Box 444 Pearisburg, VA 24134.
