William Francis Martin, 90, of Cirus St. in Pearisburg, departed this life for rest in his heavenly home, Sunday morning, May 16, 2010, at Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. Born in the Clover Hollow section of Newport on August 31, 1919, he was a son of the late Luther Francis and Maggie Sue Riggs Martin. He was retired from the Celanese Plant at Narrows and was a devoted Christian of the Pentecostal Faith. His brothers Sam Martin, Minor Martin, and Wallace Martin , and his sister Bessie Snider preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of sixty-one years, Edna Hypes Martin; his daughter Geraldine M. Shaver of Narrows; his sons Larry Martin of Pearisburg and Ronnie Martin and wife Melody of Pulaski; his grandchildren Debra Jo Shaver, Rachel Kading, Rebekah Howard, and Natasha Martin; his great-grandchildren Will Arnold, Journie Kading, Micah, Caleb, Honor, Keigan, and Calvary Howard, Chanler Bandy, and Amber Conley ; his special one like his own grandchild, Chris McCroskey; his sisters Reba Carter and husband Kenneth, Gertrude Terry and husband I B, and Mary Martin; his brother Albert “Junior” Martin of Staffordsville; his sisters-in-law Hazel and Minor Bowles, Eleanor Newby, and Joyce and Frank Longrie; his special friend Roger Shaver, and a special friend Lisa Hughes.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home two hours before the services, and at other times at the home of his daughter Geraldine Shaver, 103 Park Drive in Narrows.
