Roger Dale Simpkins, 59, of Old School House Road in Eggleston departed this life Thursday evening, January 7, 2010 at Giles Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Born in Giles County on April 2, 1950, he was a son of the late Elmer Lewis and Dorothy Marie Hopkins Simpkins. Roger had worked as a mechanic for the Giles County School Bus Garage and for many years for the U S Forest Service. He was a member of Bear Spring United Methodist Church and for 38yrs a member of the Eggleston Volunteer Fire Dept. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother James Simpkins and a brother-in-law Nickie Johnson.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife Nedica Johnson Simpkins; his son and daughter-in-law Roger Dale Simpkins, II and Leslie Williams Simpkins of Pembroke; his grandsons Nathan Simpkins and Nicholas Simpkins; his brothers and sisters-in-law William “Bill” and Wilma Simpkins of Dublin, Jeff and Roxanne Simpkins of Wytheville, and David Simpkins of Pocahontas, WV; his sisters and brothers-in-law Brenda and Bobby Carson of Blacksburg, Donna and Bill Lindberg of Antioch, IL, and Wanda and Dean Justice of Salem, WI; and several special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 AM in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with Pastor Shahn Wilburn and Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in the Simpkins Family Cemetery at Eggleston. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 6 to 8 PM.
