James Merlyn “Jimmy” Jones, 71 , a well know auto mechanic in Giles County, went home to be with the Lord in the loving care of his family at his home in Pembroke Thursday evening March 24, 2005. Born in Pembroke on January 15, 1934 he was a son of the late Carl Lynn and Nancy Elizabeth (Dump) Albert Jones. Jimmy was proud to be a veteran of the US Army (Korean Conflict), a member of Mt. View United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, a member of VFW Post 6000 at Narrows and American Legion Post 311 in Pembroke where he had served as Commander, and retired from VPI&SU as Motor Pool Supervisor. He was preceded in death by a brother Terry Jones and his father and mother-in-law Theodore and Delphia (Dink) Reese.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of fifty years, Betty Jo Reese Jones; two sons and a daughter-in-law Douglas Merlyn and Vickie Jones of Pembroke, James Eric Jones of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law Valerie and Billy Crabtree of Blacksburg, Dedra and Jack Link of Pembroke; four grandchildren Jeremy Jones, Wendi Jones, Annie Rudasill, Murdock Link; three brothers and sisters-in-law Jody and Norma Jean Jones of Wagran, NC, Rudy and Juanita Jones of Pearisburg, Mark A.”Tony” and Kathy Jones of Radford; six sisters and brothers-in-law Joyce and Charles Walters of Wytheville, Doris Jane Epperly of Pembroke, Jackie Taylor of Concord, Judy and Harold Wheeler of Narrows, Cindy and Eddie Fleshman of Narrows, Lynne and H C Rice of Salem.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with Pastor Wayman Creger, Pastor Eddie Kendall, and Pastor Joyce Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg with militry rites by American Legion Post 311 and Post 68 and VFW Post 6000. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 6 to 8 PM.
