Richard Edwin “Eddie” Williams, 65, of Pembroke passed away Sunday, August 16, 2009 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salem, VA. A lifelong resident of Giles County, he was born on November 8, 1943 a son of Margaret Gertrude Snidow Williams of Pembroke and the late Martin Luther Williams, Jr. In addition to his father Eddie was preceded in death by his sister Mary Ann Collins and his brother Robert “Bobby” Williams. Eddie was a retired employee of Virginia Tech Power Plant where he had worked for fifteen years, and was a veteran of the U S Army, Viet Nam Era. Eddie loved to hunt, fish and spend time with family and grandchildren. One of his big things was turkey hunting and being with the “Pembroke Posse”.
In addition to his mother Gertrude he leaves to cherish his memory his son Richard Edwin Williams, Jr. (Rick) and his wife Kristie of Newport; his daughter Christy Jones and husband Kevin of Pembroke; four grandchildren Makena and Jase Williams of Newport and Noah and Sarah Jones of Pembroke; his brother Martin L. “Skipper” Williams III and his wife Paula of Pembroke; his three nephews and their families Ken, Mark, and Dwight Collins and one niece Marti Williams.
A memorial service will be celebrated Wednesday, August 19 at at 6:30 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with the Rev. Rob Lough and Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 PM until 6:30 PM Wednesday. At Eddie’s request his body was cremated and his ashes will be laid to rest “Up On The Mountain”. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the local Relay For Life, American Cancer Society or the American Red Cross.
