Paul Thomas Johnson, 62, of Pearisburg departed this life Saturday morning, July 5, 2008 at Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. Born in Ballard, Monroe Co., WV on October 2, 1945 he was a son of the late Theodore Roosevelt and Elva Mae Gore Johnson. Paul was a devout Christian Man, member of First Baptist Church Choir, “The Spirits of Joy” , served as Deacon and in many other callings in the church. He was retired from Celanese Celco Plant at Narrows as a Supervisor, continued to work in various enterprises and for The Giles County School Board, until his illness, and was a member of Giles County Chamber of Commerce. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Harry Johnson.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife Barbara Anderson Johnson; his sons and daughters-in-law Ronnell Thomas and Christina Johnson of St. Petersburg, Florida, Stephen Kerry and Rachelle of Roanoke, VA; five grandchildren Gatane Gallagher, Cheyenne Paige, Dominique Johnson, Chauntel Johnson, and Jayden Johnson; three brothers and sisters-in-law Billie and Jung Johnson of Burlington, NJ, Theodore T. and Minnie Johnson of Ballard, WV, Harold and Brenda Johnson of Pearisburg, VA; three sisters and brothers-in-law Alice and Jacob Sims of Notasulga, Alabama, Mabel Johnson of Hempstead, NY, Dreama and Ralph Beauford of Roanoke, VA.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 10, 2008 at 2:00 PM in First Baptist Church, Pearisburg with Pastor Michael Bratton officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the church Wednesday evening from 6 to 9 PM and at all other times at the home.
