Goode Sears Waldron, 89, of Circle Drive in Pembroke departed this life Tuesday morning, March 11, 2008, at The Virginia Veterans Care Center in Salem. Born on Bent Mountain in Roanoke County on October 28, 1918, he was a son of the late William Coles and Virgie Neighbors Waldron. Goode was a member of Pembroke Christian Church, a veteran of the U S Navy, WW II, and a retired carpenter at RAAP. He was a master craftsman with wood, excelling in the crafting of musical instruments for Bluegrass and Mountain musicians and a maker of fine home furniture. He especially liked to work with walnut. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Herlin Waldron, a grandson Robert Dean Waldron, a daughter-in-law June Sanders Waldron, five brothers and one sister.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of sixty-nine years Marie Franklin Waldron; three sons Ronald Wayne Waldron of Pearisburg, Randall Lynn Waldron of Pembroke, Jeffrey Goode Waldron of Blacksburg; four daughters and sons-in-law Sharon and Gary Meador of Pembroke, Brenda and Wayne Kasperski of Pearisburg, Dottie and Kenny Meredith of Pembroke, Terri Waldron of Newport; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 PM in The Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with burial following in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM. Graveside military rites will be performed by American Legion Post 311 in Pembroke and Post 68 in Narrows and VFW Post 6000 in Narrows.
