John Donald Kelly, 72, of Crile Lane in Pearisburg departed this life Friday February 1, 2008 while in a trying battle with cancer. Born in Pearisburg on April 16, 1935 he was a son of the late Lacy and Iva Chandler Kelly. John was a member of Providence United Methodist Church in Wilburnís Valley, a veteran of the U S Navy, was a retired letter carrier for USPS in Blacksburg, past member of Odd Fellows Lodge in Pearisburg, and a member of NALC. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed the outdoors.
He leaves to cherish and love his memory his beloved wife Betty Davidson Kelly; sons John Randall Kelly of Ripplemead, Bryan George Kelly and wife Dana of High Point, NC; grandchildren Brandon Kelly and Sloane Kelly; brother Bill Kelly of Cleveland, Ohio; sisters Marie Lewis of Pearisburg and Sue Havens of Warrenton, VA; sister-in-law Margaret of Blacksburg; brother-in-law Oakey Davidson and wife Sandra of Houston, Texas; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday February 5, 2008 at 2:00 PM in the Providence United Methodist Church in Wilburnís Valley with The Rev. Jim Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the church two hours before the services. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that contributions be made in Johnís Memory to Providence United Methodist Church in care of Rev. Jim Jenkins, P.O. Box 478, Pearisburg, VA 24134.
