Graham Hamilton Farrier, 89, of Summit Lane in Newport departed this life Sunday evening December 9, 2007 at Montgomery Regional Hospital in Blacksburg. Born in Newport on July 31, 1918 he was a son of the late Kenneth Howe and Josephine Hamilton Farrier. He was retired from the Celanese Celco Plant at Narrows with forty-one years service and was a veteran of the U S Army, WW II. Graham was a graduate of William King High School in Abingdon and attended Berea College in Berea, KY and Emory and Henry College in Emory, VA. A devoted Christian of the Methodist Faith he held a local ministers license and as a long time member of the Newport-Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. He was a member of the Newport Ruritan Club. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lt. Kenneth Howe Farrier, Jr. who gave his life in the Korean War.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of sixty-six years, Carolyn Bickley Farrier; his daughters Jennette and husband Sherman Williams of Pembroke and Nancy E. Farrier of Newport; three grandchildren; eighth great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and a special faithful nephew Steve Bickley of Blacksburg.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1:00 PM in the Newport-Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church in Newport with The Rev. John Ward and The Rev. Morris Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Newport Cemetery with graveside military rites by the VFW and American Legion Posts of Giles County.
