Marion Rita Conlon, 90, of Pearisburg, departed this life Wednesday afternoon, October 31, 2007 at Montgomery Regional Hospital after a protracted illness. Born in New Britain, Connecticut on September 22, 1917 she was a daughter of the late Frank and Mary Clerkin Durham. Rita served her community as a nurse, with special work in hospice services, and served her Lord as a long-time member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Pearisburg and later at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Christiansburg. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank A. Conlon, her son-in-law David Walker, her brother Ben Durham, and her sister Kathryn Hodge.
She leaves to cherish her memory a beloved daughter Maureen C. Walker of Pearisburg; three adored grandchildren Lee and wife Emily W. Walker of Christiansburg, Steven and wife Mary Walker of Summerville, South Carolina, Katie and husband Derek Tharaldson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; five great-grandchildren Abigail Walker, Grant Walker, Reagan Walker, Grace Walker and Nikolaus Tharaldson; and dear friends Connie Shuff and Dottie Manos.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday November 3, 2007 at 3:00 PM in The Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with Father John Prinelli officiating. Burial will be at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens in Rome, Georgia Monday November 5, 2007 at 10:00 AM with Father James Miceli officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the services Saturday. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Holy Family Roman Catholic Church at 516 Mason Court Drive in Pearisburg, Virginia or to Our Lady of Perpetual Care Hospice House in Atlanta, Georgia.
