William Ellis Tickle, 56, of Newport, VA claimed his healing and began his walk on the golden streets of heaven Tuesday October 30, 2007 at his home. Bill fought a hard battle against cancer but is now healthy and pain free once again. He was born in Radford, VA on September 16, 1951, a son of Frances H. Tickle of Radford and the late James E. Tickle.
Bill was a former employee of Celanese and Norfolk-Southern Railroad. He was a lifetime member of UTU and a member of Lucas Memorial Christian Church. Along with his father he was preceded in death by a brother Paul Tickle and a grandson Matthew Tickle.
Bill leaves to cherish his memory his mother, his loving wife of 22 years Vicki Peters Tickle, their son Philip Tickle and fiancé Kandice Cline all of Newport; three daughters Chastity Walker and Randy of Radford, Lynn Johnston and Tim of Christiansburg, Gabrielle and Keith East of Radford; also his daughters mother Beverly Rose of Radford; his sons Aaron and Amanda Tickle of Goochland, Jared Tickle of Pearisburg and their mother Sherry Tickle of Pearisburg. Bill was so proud of each of his children who were so very devoted to him and stood by him all the way to his new beginning. He absolutely adored his ten grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as “Papaw Candy”, Lilli Tickle, Elora and Ethan Walker, Skylar and Kasey Johnston, Caleb, Sage and Keith East, Jacob Tickle and Nicole Tickle. He was anxiously awaiting the arrival of “Baby Tickle” due in February. Also surviving Bill are two brothers, David tickle of Radford, Larry and Sharon Tickle of Shawsville; two sisters Edna and Larry Prescott of Floyd, Tina and Russell Spiker of Radford; his In-laws Marlene Henderson of Pearisburg, Dennis and Louise Peters of Forest Park, Georgia. He had so many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and cousins whom he adored and a very special person in his life Lynda Atkins who will miss his smile.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, November 2, 2007 at 2:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow Street in Pembroke with his Pastor Wayman Creger, Pastor Albert Carroll and Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in the Atkins Cemetery near his home in Newport. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 6 to 8 PM. Flowers will be appreciated but it was Bill’s wish that any memorial contributions be made to the Lucas Memorial Christian Church Building Fund, 806 Apache Road, Pembroke, VA 24136.
