George Michael Tickle, 86, of Pleasant Hill Lane in Pembroke departed this life in the peace of God and loving care of his family at his home Wednesday morning May 9, 2007 after a long illness. Born in Pearisburg on January 26, 1921 he was a son of the late Walter Wingfield Scott Tickle and Latha Ann Fisher Tickle. George was employed for over 45 years at the Celanese Celco Plant at Narrows as a chef in the cafeteria. He was a devoted and long-time member of the Pembroke Assembly of God Church. He and his wife had enjoyed their membership in the Celco Sunshine Club. George was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Laura Tabor, his brothers Walter, Miller, Jack, Joe, Frank, Lyle, Guy, and Wallace Tickle.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 65 years Evangeline Sutphin Tickle; a son and daughter-in-law William and Jean Tickle of Roanoke; a daughter and son-in-law Ellen and David Tate of Pearisburg; a brother Jerry Tickle of Salem; four grandchildren Valerie Kelly, Karen Austin, Brian Tate, Michelle; step-grandson Joshua Austin; four great-grandchildren Stephanie Fisher, Ashley Tate, Logan Tate, Brandon Kelly; a host of nieces and nephews; and a beloved Church Family.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday May 12 at 2:00 PM in the Pembroke Assembly of God Church with his Pastor Jimmy Rorrer and Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating with others. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the church Friday evening from 6 to 8 PM.
