Frances Kathryn “Honey” Mahaffey

Frances Kathryn “Honey” Mahaffey, 76, of Pembroke after struggling with complications of strokes has departed this live from Avante of Roanoke Monday evening April 2, 2007 to be with her baby girl Charlene in heaven. Born March 25, 1931 in Keystone, WV to the late Clarence and Macie Dunn King. She was predeceased by two brothers Roy and Dusty King and a sister Edna Frazier, her husband Ed Mahaffey, and daughter Charlene. “Honey” met her husband Ed at a popular dance hall in Monroe Co. called The Fountain where he washed her feet with his handkerchief after she stepped into a mud hole while leaving. While working swing shift in The Bobbin Stores at the Celanese Celco Plant at Narrows she raised her four children “without sparing the rod”. She was very proud of her canning ability and loved to feed people and had great fun at her yard parties when people would come to listen to live bluegrass music. In her passing she leaves her children great memories of her dancing with her grandchildren and yelling “Get Back Jack” , Trevia to take care of “BoBo”, Shelby to cook for the family and host the get-togethers, and Duke to tinker with his bus so he and Shelby can go bluegrassin’.

She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters Trevia Jennings of Eggleston and Shelby (Tommy) Wood of Riner; a son Duke Mahaffey of Pembroke; three very special granddaughters that she helped raise Michelle (Stevie) Steele, Sheri Jennings, and Jessica Carter; she was also “Grandmaw” to Julie (Todd) Parsons and Travis Norfleet, four great-grandchildren Hannah and Katlyn Steele, Jezdon Carter and Macie Parsons; a brother Mel King of Peterstown, WV who she affectionately called “Crock” and a sister Nancy (John) Prescott of Rich Creek; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1:00 PM in The Kendall Funeral Home Chapel at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with burial following in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg.
