Christine Marie Collins , 90, of Cascade Drive in Pembroke died Friday evening January 7, 2005 at Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. Born in Giles Co. on June 5, 1914 she was a daughter of the late Joseph Sheridan and Lydia Belle Meredith Cumbee. She was a graduate of Pembroke High School and National Business College and worked at The Bank of Giles County, Pembroke Mick or Mack , and Pearisburg Home and Auto. As a devout Christian she was a member of Pembroke First United Methodist Church where she served as Church Secretary for many years, was a member of United Methodist Women and taught the primary Sunday School Class since 1936. She was preceded in death by her husband Orin Duaine “Doc” Collins; four sisters Nola Britts, Dot Ingram, Hazel Karnes, Maxine Francis and four brothers Frank, Bob, Lee and Bill Cumbee.
She leaves to cherish her memory her son and daughter-in-law “Sandy” and Sheila G. Collins of Pembroke; grandsons Duaine Collins and Christopher Collins of Pembroke; a “special son” and daughter-in-law Butch and Carolyn Cumbee of Manning, SC and many special friends that she shared her love and faith with.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, January 11, 2005 at 11:00 AM in the First United Methodist Church in Pembroke with The Rev. Jannette Clavez, The Rev. Raymond Kelley, and the Rev. Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 to 8 PM at the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke. The family suggests that memorial donations may be made to The First United Methodist Church in Pembroke.
