Clayton Leon Carbaugh, 69, of Blacksburg and Pembroke, departed this life Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville after suffering a stroke on Tuesday. He was born in St Elizabeth Hospital in Pearisburg on March 23, 1949, a son of the late Fred William and Pauline Vaught Carbaugh of Eggleston. He was retired from VTES and had previously been employed at Norfolk Southern Railway and Virginian Lime Co. His home church was Bethel Chapel in Clendennin. Leon was preceded in death by his parents, his wife’s parents Henry and Bertha Lawson Rice, his sister Mary Alice Carbaugh, his brothers Bobby, Woodie, Billy, and Charles Carbaugh; and his sisters-in-law Wanda Hale and Lois Blankenship.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 40 years Sharon Rice Carbaugh; his son Tyler Carbaugh and his girlfriend Danielle Graham; his family Mark Rice (Robin), Henry C Rice (Lynne), Paul Rice (Linda), Reba Smith (Danny), Gene Blankenship (Loretta); Mack Carbaugh and his wife Debbie; his sisters-in-law Irene, Patsy, and Kay; his “special’ daughter Teresa Wilson (Andy); his “special” grandchildren Brittney Whittaker (Clinton) ,Ryan Wilson and fiancé Jacquelyn Kenney; “special” sister Tammy O’Brien; special friends Mickey and Jane McGuigan; his special brother Ray Ratcliffe and his wife Neda; his furry companion Sid ;many favorite neices and nephews and all of his buddies along the New River.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 2:00 pm in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke, with Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens of the New River Valley in Blacksburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 5 until 8 pm.
