“Whitey”, Charles Thomas McNew, 79, of Goldbond departed this life Friday evening, October 27, 2017 at his home in the loving care of his family. Born on January 28, 1938 at Pounding Mill, Virginia he was a son of the late William Henry McNew and Alvernia Phillips McNew. For the last twenty five years of his work life he was an automobile salesman. He was a graduate of Graham High School and attended Bluefield College, and Concord College and for the last nine years a faithful worshiper at Olean Church of the Brethren at Goldbond. Whitey was a warm, loving, and adoring husband and father to his wife Betsy, his step-children, and a special Pa Pa to his grandchildren.
He leaves to cherish and honor his memory his devoted wife Betsy Hilton McNew; his step daughters Barbara D. and her husband Johnny Carter of Pembroke and Dreama Rhodes of Christiansburg; his step-grandchildren Lori McSpadden and her husband Caleb, Cody Rhodes and fiancé Marinna Dowdy, and Santanna Rhodes; his sister Shirley Levitte of Bluefield, WV and a special nephew Victor Levitte, of Bluefield, WV.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 3:00 pm in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with burial following in the Reed Cemetery, McNew addition at Goldbond. Pastor Rodger Boothe and brother Johnny Carter will be officiating. The family will receive at the funeral home Monday evening from 6 until 8pm.
