William Shepard Townley (Bill) 85, of Ripplemead, departed this life, Monday morning,October 2, 2017 in the care of Lewis-Gale Montgomery Hospital in Blacksburg and his loving family. Born in Crandon, Bland County, on April 22, 1932, he was a son of the late William Frank and Edna Victoria Havens Townley. Bill was a veteran of the US Army Korean War, a Pentecostal Evangelist and he worked as a lineman for Richardson-Wayland Electrical Company. He was a member of the Craig County Hunt Club, the Masonic Lodge, and Faith Temple Pentecostal Holiness Church in Pearisburg. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Mary Ann Dowdy Townley of sixty-one years just a month ago, his brothers Blaine Townley, :LB Townley, Leonard Townley, Arvest Kelly, and his sisters Winfred Cox, Dorothy Ford, Louella Sarver, and Barbara Townley.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters Debra Lynn Townley of Ripplemead, Barbara Ann Townley of Ripplemead, and Kathy Townley of Narrows; his grandsons Scotty Lee Detamore of Dublin and Nathaniel Byson Atwell of Narrows; his brothers Jim Townley (Wiz) of South Boston and Sherman Townley (Wanda) of Marion and his sister Virginia Woodfin (Frank) of Amelia.
Graveside services will be conducted Thursday October 5, 2017 at 1:00 pm in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg with Pastors Debbie Hutton and Eddie Kendall officiating. The family will receive friends two hours before the services at the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimers Foundation. The family would like to thank caregivers Joyce Lucas and Ashley Armstrong for their excellent care.
