Melvin Wayne Wilson (Buckshot), 78, of the Hoges Chapel area of Pembroke, departed this life Monday afternoon, August 21, 2017 at his home in the loving care of his family. Born in Hoges Store on July 17, 1939, he was a son of the late Bill and Muriel Tinsley Wilson.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children Mike Okes of Kernersville, NC, Brian Wilson and his wife Robin of Riner, VA, Amy Hurt and her husband Kevin of Willis, VA; his grandchildren Lauren Wilson, Luke Wilson, Emma Wilson, Abigail Wilson, Anna Wilson Grace Wilson, Faith Wilson, Hope Wilson, William Hurt, Nathan Hurt; and his brother Bill Wilson and his wife Cheryl; some very special friends and family Thelma (TJ) Maloney, Stanley and Sharon Lang, Mae Wilson, Brenda Lafon, Marlene Stewart, Billy and Pam Hylton, Gracie Macusevich and many more.
Buckshot grew up in Hoges Store and served in the United States Army in the late 50ís before attending and playing football at Ferrum College. He worked as a milkman, and insurance agent before working at RAAP where he retired in 1991. He was a stranger to no one and if you drove by he would be sure to wave. He loved to watch his grandchildren play ball, was an avid hunter, a Chicago Bears fan, loved music, racing, football, dancing, and his cat.
The family would like to thank all the caregivers, Malinda Hodge, Megan Boyce, Laken Baker, as well as the doctors and staff of Carilion, Intrepid, and Davita.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday morning at 11:00 am in The Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow Street in Pembroke with burial following at Southside Cemetery (Mt Lebanon Church) in Hoges Chapel.
