Edward Thaw Songer (Beck), 71, of Pleasant Hill Road, Princeton, WV departed this life Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at his home. Born in Giles County, VA on July 10, 1945 he was a son of the late Burtle Thaw Songer and Mary Agnus Williams Songer of Mt. Lake Rd, Newport, VA. Beck had become a Christian, was retired from Pounding Mill Quarry as a heavy equipment operator and foreman and enjoyed the outdoors hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Louise Dowdy and a grandchild, Easton Carter.
He leaves to cherish his memory his “Better Half” of 23 years Diane Whitt; his daughter and son-in-law Heather and Henry Carter of Bozoo, WV; his sons and daughters-in-law Johnny E and Crystal Songer of Narrows, Bruce D Carter of Christiansburg, and Edward Raymond and Tracy Songer of Big Stony Creek Road; his eleven grandchildren; his six great-grandchildren; his brothers and sisters-in-law Steve and Eloise Songer of Newport, Walter and Mary Ann Williams of Newport, Bob and Terry Songer of Maybrook; his sisters and brothers-in-law Barbara Helen and Albert McGuire of Linside, WV, Betty Mae and Dale Breeding of Craig County, Kathy Gale and Jerry Carter of Blacksburg.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 11:00 am in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with Pastor Johnny Lee Carter officiating. Burial will follow in the Songer Family Cemetery, Mt Lake Rd,, Newport. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 6 until 8:00 pm.
