Matthew Jack Dalton

MATTHEW JACK DALTON, 86, of Snidertown Road, Gold Bond (Ripplemead) departed this life Saturday morning, January 14, 2017 at his home in the care of his wife and loved ones. He was born in Snowville, VA on April 5, 1930 a son of the late Jack and Minnie Lester Dalton. Matthew worked with his skilled hands as a carpenter, enjoyed visiting the Moose Lodge and Amervets. His daughters-in-law loved him and spoke to him as Dad or PawPaw. He was preceded in death by his late wife Bertie St Clair Dalton, his son Matthew Jack Dalton Jr., his brothers Leonard, Burley, Harless, Harvey, and Edward Dalton, his sisters Ruby Richard and Sadie Wilson.

He leaves to cherish his memory a very special son and daughter-in-law Edward “Jr” and Ellen Harris, Edward, William, Kenneth, Leroy (Carol) Dalton; his daughter and son-in-law Frances and Dean Collins; his sister Hassie Rolek; his brother and sister-in-law Ellen Dalton, Bud Evans, and Helen Pyles; 20 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; a special friend of the family Donnie Elmore. His wife Lola Faye Dalton; step children Mason Dennis who was special to him and called him “Pappy” and his wife Tina Thomas, Rebecca, Stephanie Smith; brother and sister in law James R Dennis, Sarah Mitchem, Sally Dennis, Robert, Rita Bradburg and 9 step-grandchildren , six step-great-grandchildren and one special step-granddaughter, Aliyah Marie Dennis, the apple of his eye, with whom he loved to play hide and seek. When she told him to eat he always would and she would say that’s my PawPaw, I love him. He had a host of nieces and nephews. Just about all the Stoney Creek adults and children called him Paw Paw.

His body will lie in state at his home until time for the services which will also be conducted in the home at 1 :00 pm on Wednesday, January 18, 2017. Burial will follow in Angels Rest Memory Gardens at Narrows. Visitors will be received at the home Monday and Tuesday evening until time for the services.
