LILLIE YVONNE SMITH “Bonnie”, 66 of Riner passed away Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Lewis-Gale Hospital Salem. Born in Brunswick, Georgia to the late Troy and Nellie Grace Britt on April 13, 1950 she was the loving sister to Warren, May, Nell, Alonzo, Howard “Peanut”, Pete, Terri, Laura, and Wayne. She married the love of her life, Jimmy “Shadetree” Smith (deceased 2011) and moved to Newport in 1967. They later moved to Riner where they built a very successful trucking company. She was preceded in death by her parents and several sibling from many different states, as well as her brothers and sisters-in-law June Kerr, Sonny Smith, Sandra “Sam” Smith, Jerry Wayne Smith, and Gene Smith all of Giles County.
Left to cherish her memory is her son Craig Smith (Cindy) her daughter Angie Oaks (Chip), eleven grandchildren; Bryan Smith (Lindsay), Danyelle Simmons (Matt), Amanda Smith, Alexs Smith, Brittany Sharpe, Chayse Smith (Sammie), Savannah Oaks, Andy Smith, Brieanna Smith, Adrianna Smith, and Abigail Hicks, seven great-grandchildren Isabelle Sharpe, Jayden Smith, Sydney Smith, Logan Simmons, Kylee Simmons, Jayse Smith and Lyncoln Smith along with her siblings Laura Britt of Pompano, FL, Wayne Britt of Salt Lake City, UT, and special caregiver and sister Terri Montoya (Rey) of Albuquerque, NM. Bonnie is also survived by her brother and sisters-in-law Walter Kerr of Narrows, Iris “Tator” of Roanoke, Patsy Vaught (Charlie) of Salem, Pat Smith of Newport, Betty Smith of Newport, Joyce Dilello (Mike) of Christiansburg along with her devoted and loving friends Jackie and Patty Collins of Pembroke and many, many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Arrangements are being handled by Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St in Pembroke. Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the funeral home, with Eddie Kendall officiating. Visitation for friends will be Tuesday from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Burial will follow the services in the Atkins Cemetery at Newport. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital (www.stjude.org).
