JAMES HARVEY LAFON “Jimmy” “Rubberneck”, 79, of Croft Road, Pembroke, departed this life Thursday evening, December 8, 2016 at Carilion Giles Community Hospital in Pearisburg. Born in Montgomery County on April 13, 1937, he was a son of the late Claude Simmerman and Elsie Price Lafon. He was a member of the Evangelistic Holiness Chapel in Pembroke, was a graduate of Blacksburg High School and New River Community College, and was a master machinist operating Lafon’s Machine Shop at his home for 42 Years.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 43 yrs, Brenda Stanley Lafon; his beloved daughter and son-in-law Marlene and Herman Stewart of Pembroke; his grandchildren whom he adored Destini and Tray Stewart; his brothers Sidney Lafon of Reidsville, NC and Ralph Lafon of Lynchburg; his five nieces and three nephews; his special friends Buddy Shaver and Jack Waldron; and several good friends too numerous to name.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, December 12, 2016, at 2:00 pm in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with Pastor Merrell Hedrick officiating. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery in Blacksburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 5 until 8 pm.
