HARVEY RAY JOURNELL, 76, of Christiansburg and formerly of Giles County departed this life Wednesday, October 26, 2016 in the loving care of his family at his home. Born on September 27, 1940, he was a son of the late Buford Ray and Minnie Mae Pruitt Journell of Narrows. He was a member of Riverview Baptist Church in Ripplemead, served in the U S Army from 1960 until 1966, was retired from Kroger in Salem with 35 years service and Warm Hearth in Blacksburg with 15 years service, was a graduate of Pearisburg High School (the Red Devils) and had been a student at Pembroke High School (the Corn Cutters). He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Ernest Henry Journell and David Journell, his daughters Karen Elaine Journell, Cherron Lynn Journell, and Kathy Lynn Walker.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife Barbara A. Journell, his daughter Ginger Poole Stevers of Christiansburg, his sons Jeffrey Ray Journell of Christiansburg, Joe Curtis Poole of Germantown, TN, Marvin Lee Journell of NC, and Richard Varnell Poole of Carolina Beach, NC; his siblings Mildred Morris (JR) of Baltimore, MD, J B Journell (Sandy) of Narrows, Vickie McCroskey (Donald) of Pembroke, and Carolyn Atkins (Frankie) of Pearisburg; his grandchildren Halen Ray Journell, Kristy Journell Spangler, Richard William Poole, Rosie Poole Lloyd, Heidi Lambert Payton, Jeremy Kenneth Lambert, William Murray Poole, Curtis Walker Poole, Amnity Lynn Stevers, Michael Leon Stevers, Sabrina Marie Stevers, and Taylor Adair Stevers; His great-grandchildren Colton Ray Spangler, Connor James Spangler, Kaelynn Ariel Hinson, Persephone Alexandra Hinson, Connor Leon Stevers, Kravin Lafayette Stevers, Kellen Ray Stevers, Liam James Robertson, and Ember Willow Colwell; his special friends Thomas Cambell, Shirley Booth, Rodney Justice and Charlie Semple; his sister-in-law Alice Journell of Pearisburg; and his beloved pet Charlie.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday October 31, 2016 at 1:00 pm in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke with Pastor Shahn Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow in The Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin with full military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the services.
