Dr. Gale Lynn Gordon, 78, of Radford, departed this life Tuesday morning, May 3, 2016 in a Winston-Salem, NC hospital after a brief illness. Born in Dover,Ohio on September 7, 1937 he was a son of the late Noel Omar and Ethel Walter Gordon. He was Professor Emeritus at Radford University where he served as Chairman of the Art Department, he taught Art Education, Ceramics and Water Color for twenty-eight years. He also taught at North Texas State, now known as the University of North Texas, he earned a BS in Art Education at Wittenberg University, and M Ed and DEd in Art Education from Pennsylvania State University. He was a member of the Virginia May Lodge , AF&AM, and served in the U S Army reserves. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dr. Keith Gordon.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of fifty-three years, Mildred “Dee” Decker Gordon; his daughter Lora Gordon of Radford; his son and daughter-in-law Erik and Odessa Kendall Gordon of Kernersville, NC and their sons Joseph and Daniel Gordon; his sister Suzanne Halter (David) of Denver, Colorado and her children Neal and Dr. Elaine Stickrath (Brent) and sister-in-law Sandra Gordon of Van Wert, Ohio and her children Scott and Keith and their children. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Bobbi Smith (Joe Morgan) and Julie Jones (Bob) and their children, Julie, Jodi, Todd, Doug, Rob and Shane and ex brother-in-law Adrian Smith and legions of former students.
Memorial services will be conducted Sunday, May 8, 2016, at 2:00 pm in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St in Pembroke. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the services.
