Jesse James Whittaker, 69, of Campmeeting Road, Pearisburg, departed this life Sunday evening, October 25, 2015 at Pulaski Health and Rehab in Pulaski after a long illness. Born on Guinea Mountain, Pearisburg on May 24, 1946, he was a son of the late Roy Estil, Sr. and Josephine Criner Whittaker. He was a graduate of Giles High School 1964, served for six years with the Army National Guard, was employed with the U S Postal Service for over thirty years, serving as a letter carrier, Post Master at Staffordsville, and as a supervisor, and had been a member of the Moose Lodge. He was a Christian, having confessed his faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Roy and Martin Whittaker.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter and son-in-law Diane and Tim Lamberth of Pembroke; his step-son Kevin Bise of Galax; his sister Frances W. Ratcliffe of Pulaski; his grandchildren Faith and Grace Lamberth; and his good friend Billy Chappell of Pearisburg. Jesse spent his life helping others and was a faithful friend to all. Jesse was also loved and cared for by his friends at Pulaski Health and Rehab.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, October 30, 2015 at 11 am in Riverview Baptist Church, Ripplemead with Pastor Shahn Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke, Thursday evening from 6 until 8 pm.
