Helen Holdren, 83, of Newport departed this life Friday afternoon, October 9, 2015 at Lewis-Gale Medical Center in Salem. She was born in Merrimac on June 26, 1932, a daughter of the late Christopher and Ada Huff Peele. She was a member of Oakview Christian Church of the Spruce Run Community and a 4-H Leader for many years. She has remained active and is known at the Blacksburg Farmers Market community as “Ron’s Mom” sharing her time tested jams and jellies with patrons of The Green Market. She was proud when Virginia Tech students would report that her products reminded them of their grandma’s. Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 yrs., Allie Holdren.
She leaves to cherish her memory her sons Randal B. Holdren (her devoted caregiver) of Spruce Run Community and Ronald D. Holdren and his wife Lisa of Pembroke; her special friends Eddie Miller of Pembroke and Glenna Jarrell of Blacksburg.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday evening, October 12, 2015 at 7:00 pm in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow Street, Pembroke with Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 until 7 pm before the services. Burial will be on Tuesday at Belmont Cemetery in Christiansburg.
