June Whicker Russell, 82, a resident of Warm Hearth in Blacksburg, VA, previously of Charlottesville, VA and originally from Kannapolis, NC, completed her life and headed for a new adventure on September 26, 2015, at the home of her daughter in Newport.
June was always full of life, love and kindness. Her early years as an educator led her into becoming a passionate advocate for health issues, including women’s health, nutrition, anti-smoking, and right-to-die options. She loved music and quilting, and shared her talents with everyone. Her top priority, though, was her family, and she was an awesome Mom!
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Paul H. Russell; her children and their spouses, Elaine (Scott) Myers, Mark (Helen) Russell and Paula (Fred Palka) Russell; 10 grandchildren, plus younger generations; her brother, Gaines Whicker; and many dear friends.
Many thanks to Good Samaritan Hospice and Warm Hearth at Home caregivers. Bless you all.
There will be no memorial services, and please, no flowers. To remember June, take a moment during your day to be thoughtful and kind to someone, as she was to so many.
