Josef Rudolf Schelch, 62, of Newport, VA departed this life Monday morning, March 2, 2015 at his home. Born in Leutschach, Austria on September 10, 1952 he was a son of the late Martin and Edeltraut Wagner Schelch. He was a veteran of the Austrian Army and graduate of European culinary schools. Josef was a retired chef having worked at The Homestead in Hot Springs, VA and The Inn at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife Glenna McMillion Schelch; his son Josef R. Schelch, Jr. of New York City; his daughter and son-in-law Roberta and Dale Kershner of Hot Springs, VA; his grandchildren Trista, Trenton, Nevada, and Utah Kershner and a “special granddaughter” Malorie Oakley; his brother Martin Schelch of Hohenerns, Austria; his sisters Edeltraut Bale of Feldkirch, Austria and Irene Schelch of Switzerland.
Memorial services will be conducted Friday, March 6, 2015 at 3:00 pm in The Newport-Mt Olivet United Methodist Church in Newport with the pastor, The Rev. Morris Fleischer, officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the services. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to Newport-Mt Olivet United Methodist Church, 311 Bluegrass Trail, Newport, VA 24128.
