Mary Kathleen Whittaker, 84, of the Green Valley Community near Eggleston went home to be with her Lord on Friday evening December 16, 2005 from Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Raonoke. Born in Pembroke on November 26, 1921 she was a daughter of the late John Dexter and Pricie Link Stevers. She was a beloved member of the Green Valley United Methodist Church near Eggleston, had attended Berea College, and was a former teacher for the Giles County Week-day Religious Education Program. She was preceded in death by her husbands Lacy L. Morris and Lewis H. Whittaker; and three brothers, Charles Donald, Russell Lee, and J.W. “Bill” Stevers.
She leaves to cherish her memories a son and daughter-in-law Dexter Kent and Beverly Morris of Trigg; five brothers and sisters-in law Wiley Stevers of Pembroke, Beuland (Blue Jay) and Martha Ann Stevers of Pembroke, Arthur Lloyd and Pat Stevers of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, John Stevers of Perry, Florida, Gerald and Janie Stevers of Pembroke; a sister and brother-in-law Lois S. and Frank Eppling of Pembroke; three sisters-in-law Beulah Stevers of Pembroke, Totsie Stevers of Newport, Helen Stevers of Pembroke; many nieces and nephews; step children and step-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with the Rev. Betty Roberts officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour before the services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that contributions be made to the Green Valley United Methodist Church or the charity of choice.
