Inez S. Johnson, 84, of Campbells Creek, WV and formerly of Pembroke, VA died, Sunday December 11, 2005 at Mary’s Garden, Marmet Health Nursing Home of complications from a long illness. She was born on November 12, 1921 in Putney, WV, the daughter of the late Homer and Rena Leftwich Snidow. Preceding her in death, other than her parents, were her husbands Capt. James F. Mayenschein, USMC, Iwo Jima WW II, James Edward Stumbo and Roy Jennings Johnson, a son James Homer Mayenschein (Rusty), son-in-law John G. Duncan (Jerry), brother Albert H. Snidow, Jr. and brother-in-law Charles F. Dent.
Surviving are her daughter Patricia M. Duncan of DuPont City, WV , a son Charles E. Stumbo of Campbells Creek, WV, four grandchildren Monica L. Gibson of Ripley, John Craig Duncan of Scott Depot, Susanne Buchko of Marmet, and Lynette A Stumbo of Charleston; seven great-grandchildren, a sister Margaret I. Dent of WV and FL; a sister-in-law Edith Snidow of Charleston, WV.
She was a member of the Pembroke Lutheran Church and attended the Coal Fork Methodist Church. She was active in several clubs, DAR, Snidow Association of Giles Co., Historical Society, Eastern Star, Woman’s Club, Bridge Club, and The Pembroke Library Association. She worked as bookkeeper and clerk for the Putney Company Store, The Draft Board, Frankenbergers, and War Telephone and McDowell Water Co. She owned White Sewing Center on E. Washington Street in Charleston with her husband Ed Stumbo.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday December 14, 2005 at 1:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke, VA with The Rev. Walter Vierling and Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the services. The family would like to thank the staff at Mary’s Garden and Dr. Ferris for the loving care given to our mother.
