Ronald W. Cofer, age 74, of Pearisburg, VA went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 25, 2014. He was born on October 3, 1939 in Lynchburg, VA to the late Lawrence Hill Cofer and Mary Virginia Ferbee. He was preceded in death by one brother, Issac Cofer.
He served his country in the United States Air Force which included a tour in Vietnam. He retired with twenty-two years of service. Afterwards, he worked as a systems analyst for ITT in Colorado Springs, Colorado for fourteen years. He and his family moved back to Virginia in 1993 and he was employed at Bland Correctional Facility until retiring.
He was a man who deeply loved the Lord and his church family at Riverview Baptist Church. He was an avid sports fan who loved his New York Yankees and Denver Broncos. He spent many years playing and coaching softball. Later in life he took up cycling and loved to ride through the beautiful New River Valley.
He leaves behind his loving wife of fifty-one years, Faye Cofer. He is also survived by his three daughters, Ginger Canode and husband Brian of Staffordsville, VA; Rhonda Cofer of Edmond, OK; Shelby Johnston and husband Benji of Roanoke, VA; two brothers Larry Cofer and wife Christine of Jacksonville, North Carolina and Reggie Cofer of Jacksonville, North Carolina; one sister Barbara Sadler of Atlanta, GA; eleven grandchildren Nikki, Dani, Andrew, Rickey, Eric, Lacy, Olivia, Gavin, Conner, Caleb, and Elijah; six great-grandchildren Isaiah, Rowen, Addy Faye, Virginia, Avory, and Riley; and Charlene Green who was like another daughter to him. He was loved and adored by his family and friends and very precious to their hearts.
The memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at 3:00 pm at Riverview Baptist Church in Ripplemead, VA and will be officiated by Pastors Shahn Wilburn and Terry Easter. Burial be on Monday May 5, 2014 at 11:00 am at Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Riverview Baptist Church for the Guatamala Mission Team at 219 Big Stoney Creek Road Ripplemead, VA 24150.
