Evelyn Mae Bowles, 83, of Narrows, departed this life for her heavenly home, Friday morning, January 31, 2014 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA. Born in Narrows on May 1, 1930, she was a daughter of the late William Henry and Sarah Nancy Wimmer Smith. She was a devout Christian, member of the fellowship of worshipers at Bethel Chapel in Clendennin. She excelled in her calling as a homemaker, wife, and mother and blessed congregations through the years with her beautiful singing. She was a 1947 graduate of Narrows High School. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her sons William Maury and Jack Michael Bowles, her brothers Howard, Archie, Cecil, Wendell, and Carl Smith, and her sister Pemmel Smith.
She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved and devoted husband of 66 years, Jack H. Bowles; her son and daughter-in-law Thomas R. and Brenda Bowles of Pearisburg; her daughters and sons-in-law Sarah B. and Ray Collier of Bristol, VA and Melinda B. and Bobby Tabor of Narrows; her nine grandchildren; her six great-grandchildren; her sisters Alma Butler of Baltimore, MD and Patricia Dillon of Waynesboro, VA.
At Evelynís request there will be no public viewing, but a graveside service will be conducted Monday at 11:00 am in Fairview Cemetery at Narrows with Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating.
