Elston Ronald Vaught, Jr. “Ronnie”, 73, of Pearis Road, Pearisburg, departed this life Wednesday morning, January 15, 2014 at his home in the loving care of his family and hospice after a short illness. Born on Spruce Run at Newport, on September 17, 1940, he was a son of the late Rev. Elston R. Sr. and Irene Smith Vaught. He was a 1959 graduate of Newport High School, was retired from Commonwealth Bolt as a tractor-trailer driver, excelled as a shade-tree mechanic, enjoyed golfing with his buddies at Giles Country Club in Pearisburg, and he was 1991 Champion in Pure Stock Car Racing. Ronnie was a Christian and member of Riverview Baptist Church in Ripplemead. His greatest joy in life was his family, especially being a “Papaw”.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 51 yrs., Mary Taylor Vaught; his daughters and sons-in-law Vickie and Darryl Ferrell of Pearisburg and Sherry and Jeff Wall of Narrows; his grandchildren Nichole and Derek Wilson, Wesley Ferrell, Joshua Ferrell, Jordon Wall, Jamie Wall; his great-grandchildren Devin, Kaylee, and Luke Wilson; his brothers and sisters-in-law Paul and Ella Mae Vaught of Newport, Larry Vaught of Newport; his sisters and brothers-in-law Eleanor and Allen Link of Newport, Phyllis Sparks of Newport, Joyce and Darrell Kessinger of Newport; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Brenda and David Crane, Patsy Carter, and Tom and Nancy Taylor.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 am in Riverview Baptist Church, Ripplemead with Pastor Shahn Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the church Friday evening from 6 until 8 pm. The Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke is in charge of the arrangements.
