Gertrude Mae Fletcher, 83, of Wenonah Ave. in Pearisburg died Tuesday morning November 9, 2004 at Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. Born on January 7, 1921 in Paint Bank, VA she was a daughter of the late Elliott Garfield (Tom) Lafon and Ada Link Lafon. She attended the Pembroke Christian Church and Pearisburg Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husbands Dewey Fleeman and James Fletcher; brothers Raymond, Donald, Frank, and Bill Lafon; sisters Margie Pyles, Mary Fisher, and Elva Sheets.
She leaves to cherish her memory her son and daughter-in-law with whom she had made her home Charles and Phyllis Fleeman of Pearisburg; a daughter Joanne F. Thompson of Mebane, NC; a brother Thomas Lafon of Newport; a sister Thelma L. Fleeman of Peterstown, WV; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a special friend Sylvia Williams of Pembroke.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with Pastor Shahn Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6 to 8 PM. The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Devereaux, Dr. Michael McMahan the nursing staff at Giles Memorial Hospital, Giles Rescue Squad and all the family and friends who have given their support during Mrs. Fletcher's illness.
