Walter Alphonso Thornhill, Jr., 61, of Pearisburg, departed this life peacefully Friday morning, September 17, 2010 at his home. Born in Tazewell County, VA on November 8, 1948 he was a son of the late Walter Alphonso, Sr. and Elizabeth June Summers Thornhill. He was employed at Chemical Lime Co. at Kimballton, was a veteran of the U S Army, Viet Nam, had worked as a miner in the Bishop (VA) Coal Mines, and served as fire chief of the Pocahontas Volunteer Fire Department in Pocahontas, VA. He was preceded in death by brothers Larry Thornhill and Claude Hamblin and a sister Barbara Shelton.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Crystal Campbell Thornhill of Beckley, WV ; his daughter Andrea Thornhill of Bluefield, WV; his grandchildren Zachary Thornhill and Deontrae Thornhill; his brothers Ronnie Thornhill of Princeton, WV, John Thornhill of Tazewell, VA, Stephen Thornhill of Bluefield, VA, Tony Thornhill of Anchorage, Alaska; his sisters Deloris Burke of Cincinnati, Ohio, Charlene Thornhill of Portsmouth, VA, Darlene Thornhill of Bluefield, WV, Yolanda Choate of Columbus, Ohio, Victoria Thornhill of Columbus, Ohio; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial service will be conducted Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at 2:00 PM in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke, with Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating.
